The Ogun State Government has settled the outstanding N300,000 medical bill of a 25-year-old mother of triplets, Mrs Morenikeji Olatunji, who was reportedly detained at a private hospital in Abeokuta over inability to pay.
The intervention followed PLATFORM TIMES exclusive report that exposed the plight of the young mother and her newborns, who remained in the facility weeks after delivery due to unpaid charges.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye, led a delegation to the hospital on Tuesday where she confirmed the government had fully cleared the bill, enabling the discharge of the mother and her babies.
Adeleye said the action underscored the Dapo Abiodun-led administration’s commitment to protecting vulnerable women and children, stressing that no indigent family should be denied medical care or dignity after childbirth.
“We are here on behalf of the Ogun State Government to support this family and ensure mother and babies return home safely. The government will continue to prioritise maternal and child welfare across the state,” she said.
The Commissioner commended the hospital for its patience and professional handling of the case, adding that the ministry will continue to track the family’s welfare.
She also announced that the state would provide additional nutritional and medical support for the triplets.
An emotional Mrs Olatunji expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun, the ministry and well-meaning residents who reached out after the report went viral.
“Words cannot express my appreciation. I thank the Governor, the Commissioner and everyone who came to our rescue,” she said.
The mother of four had appealed for public assistance after exhausting her family’s resources, leading to a social media outcry and eventual government intervention.
