A 27-year-old Nigerian man, Chukwuebuka Eweni, has been arrested by police in New Orleans, United States, after allegedly stabbing his father to death and attacking his two sisters during a violent domestic incident on Pebble Street.
The deceased, identified by family members as Samuel Eweni, was a respected computer science professor at the Southern University at New Orleans.
Relatives told WWL Louisiana that the attack was “sudden and shocking,” noting that although the suspect had a history of mental illness, he had never previously exhibited violent behaviour.
According to the account, the two daughters survived the attack. One has since been discharged from hospital, while the other remains hospitalized but is expected to recover fully.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) confirmed that the suspect had been traced to Jefferson Parish, where he was taken into custody.
“Chukwuebuka Eweni has been located in Jefferson Parish. He is currently in law enforcement custody while undergoing medical evaluation at an area facility,” the police said.
Authorities explained that officers responded at about 9:59 p.m. on November 11, 2025, to a report of an aggravated domestic attack involving a sharp weapon. Upon arrival, officers found the professor unresponsive with at least one fatal stab wound. His two daughters were discovered with multiple stab injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital.
Investigators have now identified Eweni as the suspect and secured an arrest warrant.
“Through investigation, NOPD Homicide Section detectives have developed and positively identified Eweni as the perpetrator in this incident and have obtained an arrest warrant on one count of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder,” the statement added.
Police also warned that the suspect was considered armed and dangerous at the time of the manhunt.
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office is expected to formally announce the victim’s identity and cause of death after concluding an autopsy and notifying the family.
The tragic incident has left the Nigerian community in New Orleans in shock, especially colleagues and students of the late professor, who is described as a dedicated academic and father.
