Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected kidnapper in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State while he was allegedly negotiating a N20 million ransom with relatives of an abducted resident.
The suspect, identified as Umar Musa Geyi, was picked up on Saturday during a covert operation at the Jandei–Kulamu axis following an intelligence-led surveillance by troops under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) and Operation Zafin Wuta.
Army spokesperson, Umar Mohammed, who confirmed the arrest on Sunday, said Geyi had long been on the radar of security agencies over his alleged links to a notorious kidnapping network terrorising Wukari and surrounding communities.
He disclosed that preliminary findings indicated Geyi’s direct involvement in the abduction of Alhaji Jano, a Fulani resident of Jandei–Kulala, kidnapped on November 13, 2025 and still being held by his captors.
According to Mohammed, troops tracked and intercepted a call in which the suspect reportedly assured relatives that the victim was alive and insisted on the N20 million ransom before release.
“The suspect is now in custody and undergoing intensive interrogation to assist troops in locating the victim and dismantling the syndicate behind the abduction,” the spokesperson added.
Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their professionalism, reaffirming the Army’s readiness to sustain operations aimed at neutralising criminal elements across Taraba State.
He urged residents to continue providing reliable intelligence to security agencies to fast-track rescue operations and enhance the fight against kidnapping in the region.
