Two suspected cattle thieves, 20-year-old Aliyu Umaru and 26-year-old Yusuf Ibrahim, were on Wednesday arraigned before an Ijebu-Ode Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing ten cows valued at N26 million from a farm in Ogun State.
The defendants were brought before the court on a two-count charge bordering on armed robbery and conspiracy, following a police investigation led by the Ogun State Police Command.
According to the charge sheet signed by police prosecutor Solomon Babalola, the offence was committed between June 16 and 17, 2025, when the suspects and others still at large allegedly invaded Tojok Heritage Farm, located behind the Iworo Health Centre in Iworo-Ijebu.
The suspects were said to have stormed the farm around 4:30 a.m., carting away the cows at gunpoint after allegedly threatening workers on site with a gun and a cutlass.
The charge partly reads: “That you, Aliyu Umaru ‘m’, Yusuf Ibrahim ‘m’, and others at large, on the 16th and 17th of June, 2025, at about 0430hrs, did conspire among yourselves to commit a felony to wit: armed robbery, contrary to Section 6(b) and punishable under Section 1(2)(a) of the Robbery and Firearms Special Provisions Act, CAP R11 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.”
Another count accused the defendants of robbing ten cows belonging to one Mr. Toyin Bakre, while armed with offensive weapons, in violation of the Ogun State Anti-Violence and Related Offences Law, 2016.
After listening to the submissions, Magistrate Ibukun Orekoya ordered that the two suspects be remanded in a correctional facility pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The case was adjourned until February 25, 2026, for further mention.
