Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, on Thursday deepened its commitment to hands-on entrepreneurship training with the commissioning of a block-making industry, a 5KVA solar power system, and a multi-point Wi-Fi installation— all designed and executed by students of the institution.
The projects, undertaken under the institution’s Special Practical Entrepreneurship Projects (SPEPs), were showcased at the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (MAPCED) and supervised by the Entrepreneurship Directorate with technical input from industry professionals, many of whom are MAPOLY alumni.
Governing Council Chairman, Emeritus Prof. Kamaldeen Balogun, who led the commissioning, said the institution had demonstrated that polytechnics remain critical to Nigeria’s quest for practical, skill-based education and a vibrant entrepreneurial economy.
“Nigerian polytechnics can power the country’s entrepreneurship revolution if given the right support,” Balogun said, praising the students for delivering projects he described as proof of MAPOLY’s capacity to produce graduates equipped with “skills, not just degrees,” in line with the NBTE’s current reform agenda.
He added that the Polytechnic would intensify investments in MAPCED to enable it expand production activities beyond campus, especially in the area of concrete block manufacturing.
The goal, he said, is for MAPOLY to set a new quality benchmark for the local block-making industry.
A documentary highlighting the students’ technical sessions, inspections, and hands-on training was presented to guests at the event.
