The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, has said endemic corruption is stifling Nigeria’s growth and concealing the immense blessings God has bestowed on the country.
Olukoyede stated this in Abuja on Wednesday while delivering his Christmas message to Nigerians, urging citizens to unite against corruption in order to unlock the nation’s true potential and prosperity.
According to him, corruption remains one of the greatest obstacles to Nigeria’s development, undermining economic progress, eroding public trust and preventing the country from attaining the abundant life ordained for it.
He said, “Corruption is a major drawback. It has continued to hold us down and mask the abundant blessings God has given to this nation. We must confront it more fiercely to allow God’s purpose for Nigeria to manifest.”
The EFCC boss called on Nigerians to collectively resist corrupt practices and work together to build a nation that is stronger, richer and more respected in the global community.
“Let us join hands to make our nation greater, stronger and more prosperous. The fight against corruption is not the responsibility of government alone; it is a collective duty,” he added.
Olukoyede also urged Nigerians to embrace the core values exemplified by Jesus Christ—love, hope and light—describing them as essential ingredients for national renewal and sustainable development.
“Nigeria needs the refreshing hope, love and light which Christ brought to the world. These values are critical if we must move forward as a people,” he said.
He further encouraged citizens to support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, expressing confidence that the policy direction would rekindle optimism and restore belief in Nigeria’s ability to overcome its challenges.
“Let the Renewed Hope agenda of Mr President ignite fresh confidence in us and strengthen our belief that Nigeria will rise again,” Olukoyede said.
His remarks come at a time the country is grappling with economic hardship, rising cost of living and declining public confidence in governance, even as anti-corruption agencies intensify efforts to combat financial crimes and restore accountability in public life.
