Former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has commended security agencies for the successful rescue of a former member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Maruf Musa, who was abducted by gunmen in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area.
Musa was kidnapped on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, while praying at about 8pm in Ibiade community, an incident that sparked widespread anxiety across the state, particularly in Ogun East Senatorial District.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Daniel expressed profound gratitude to God for Musa’s safe return after about three days in captivity, describing the rescue as a testament to effective intelligence gathering and inter-agency collaboration.
The senator specifically praised the Inspector-General of Police, the Department of State Services, as well as the Ogun State Police and DSS commands, for what he described as their professionalism, dedication and swift response.
According to him, the coordinated efforts of the security agencies reaffirmed the commitment of Nigeria’s security institutions to the protection of lives and property, even in the face of growing security challenges.
Daniel also lauded the people of Ogun State, particularly residents of Ogun East, for what he called overwhelming prayers, concern and moral support during the period Musa was held captive.
“The outpouring of love, solidarity and faith from our people was deeply moving and stands as a powerful reminder of our collective strength,” he said.
While describing the abduction as a painful reminder of the fragility of life and the persistent threat of insecurity, the former governor said the safe return of the ex-lawmaker had renewed hope that evil would not triumph over the state.
“The safe return of Hon. Maruf Musa strengthens our confidence that with unity, prayer and professional security engagement, we can overcome insecurity,” Daniel added.
He further prayed for Musa’s full physical, emotional and psychological recovery, while reassuring the people of Ogun East and the entire state of his continued commitment to initiatives and collaborations aimed at promoting safety, peace and the general well-being of residents.
Daniel concluded by thanking Ogun residents for standing together during what he described as an emotionally draining period, urging sustained collective action against criminal activities in the state.
