The Nigeria Police Force has removed and sanctioned the Divisional Police Officer of the GRA Division, Asaba, Delta State, CSP Christopher Udoh, following allegations of corruption, abuse of office and the unlawful extortion of a man whose act of kindness nearly cost him his freedom.
The police also refunded money extorted from the victim, Mr Tomi Akporoghene Wojuola, who was allegedly framed for murder after rushing a sick stranger to a hospital in Asaba.
The Delta State Police Command confirmed the disciplinary action on Saturday in a statement posted on X by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.
Edafe said the Command had contacted Wojuola, ensured the return of the money taken from him and sanctioned the officer involved.
“The guy has since been contacted, the DPO removed and sanctioned, and the money refunded,” the police spokesperson stated.
Wojuola’s ordeal began in 2025 when he stopped to assist a young man who collapsed by the roadside in Asaba. Acting on medical advice received over the phone, he rushed the unidentified victim to a hospital after other passersby reportedly ignored the situation.
However, the victim later died at the hospital.
According to Wojuola, he requested that the police be informed in line with standard protocol since he did not know the deceased. Rather than being commended for his action, he was taken to the GRA Police Station, Asaba, where he was accused of murder and detained.
He alleged that his statement was taken under caution and that the DPO, CSP Udoh, threatened him for acting like a “good Samaritan”.
“I was instead accused of murder, with my statement taken under caution. The DPO told me he must deal with me for acting like ‘Jesus’,”
