An Ogun State court on Monday denied bail to controversial singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, following his arraignment on multiple criminal charges, including assault, theft and obstruction of police officers.
Portable was arraigned before the Federal High Court sitting in Ota, Ogun State, where the prosecution accused him of attacking several individuals, among them a police officer, and stealing a luxury vehicle valued at millions of naira.
Confirming the development, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed it on Tuesday that the artiste was arrested, arraigned and subsequently remanded in custody.
“Yes, he was arraigned in court and remanded yesterday,” Babaseyi said.
The arraignment followed a viral video that surfaced on Sunday showing the singer in handcuffs, shirtless and visibly distressed, while pleading in what appeared to be a police holding facility. The footage sparked widespread reactions on social media.
According to the prosecution, the Zazu crooner allegedly assaulted actress and skit maker Omobolarinde Akinyanju, popularly known as Ashabi Simple, one of his baby mamas, during an altercation at his bar located in the Iyana Ilogbo area of Ogun State on New Year’s Day.
The prosecution further alleged that Portable, alongside other individuals, attacked police officers who responded to a distress call at the venue.
Other alleged victims listed in the charge sheet include Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi and Ebuka Odah.
It was also alleged in court that the singer stole a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at about ₦12 million, belonging to Ileyemi Damilola and linked to a car dealership, Wally Dex Auto.
During the proceedings, two siblings of Ashabi Simple testified as prosecution witnesses, narrating how the alleged assault occurred.
However, Ashabi herself was absent from court.
The police further accused the musician of obstructing and physically assaulting a female police inspector, Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was carrying out her official duties.
In his ruling, the presiding judge declined to grant the bail application, citing the absence of the allegedly assaulted police officer in court. The judge held that the officer’s presence was crucial to determining the bail request.
Consequently, the court ordered that Portable be remanded in custody and adjourned the bail hearing to January 19, 2026.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command has ordered an investigation into a separate viral video allegedly showing the singer being assaulted while in police custody, assuring the public that any officer found culpable would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The case has continued to draw public attention, adding to the growing list of controversies surrounding the embattled singer.
