Renowned Fuji musician Saheed Osupa has publicly rejected a controversial prophecy predicting his death, describing the cleric behind it as a “fake alpha and prophet.”
The controversy began after a Nigerian Muslim cleric, known as Alpha Olopa Meta, allegedly foretold that Osupa would die on January 10, 2026.
The cleric reportedly claimed he had spiritually intervened on Osupa’s behalf and advised the singer to purchase a large ram for special prayers to avert the predicted death.
The prophecy quickly sparked a heated debate on social media, with fans, colleagues, and online commentators condemning what many described as fear-mongering and irresponsible religious claims.
Osupa addressed the prophecy during a live performance on Sunday, January 11, delivering a firm and emotional rebuttal before his audience.
“Fake alpha and prophet, please don’t wish me dead,” Osupa told the crowd.
“Everyone who wishes me dead will die in my place.”
The remarks were met with thunderous applause, reflecting public support for the Fuji legend’s stance. Videos of his response have since gone viral, reigniting discussions on the influence of religious figures and the consequences of public pronouncements about life and death.
Despite the controversy, Osupa continues with his music career, performing and appearing in public with his usual energy, showing no sign that the prophecy has affected him.
The Fuji icon, celebrated for his decades-long contribution to Nigerian music, remains focused on his craft and fans.
