The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, and the Olowu of Owu, Prof. Saka Adelola Matemilola, have endorsed the initiatives of the Egba Economic Summit (EES) in establishing a committee to develop a new Abeokuta Master Plan covering the six local governments of Ogun Central Senatorial District: Abeokuta South, Abeokuta North, Ewekoro, Odeda, Obafemi Owode, and Ifo.
The committee, chaired by Captain Temilola Okesanjo, a foundation member of the summit, comprises seasoned professionals with proven track records in their respective fields, including Prof. Oyesiku, Alhaji Waheed Kadiri, Engr. Bayo Adeola, and Dr. Gbenga Adeoye, President of EES. The EES Administrative Secretary serves as the committee secretary.
Speaking during a visit to the Olowu’s palace on January 13, Dr. Adeoye expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to execute the project independently while committing to mobilise resources to ensure its success.
The Olowu of Owu pledged unwavering support for all developmental projects in Egbaland and lauded the summit’s efforts to promote sustainable growth across the six local governments.
He also instructed the EES leadership to investigate delays in completing the Ajebo-Idi Aba Express Road by the Federal Government and to engage the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, to expedite progress.
According to him, the road is critical as an alternative route to Ibadan and for the newly established permanent site of the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences (FUMMSA).
Captain Okesanjo, chairman of the master plan committee, emphasised the need for controlled urban development and the preservation of historical sites to boost tourism.
He lamented the neglect of several areas in Abeokuta, noting that strategic planning is essential to harmonise growth with heritage preservation.
Dr. Adeoye also announced plans for a detailed review of Ogun State’s 2026 budget to track capital projects affecting the Central Senatorial District, pledging close monitoring of implementation.
Chief Olusola Adeoye, Osupori of Owu Kingdom, commended EES for its vision, urging the team to remain steadfast despite anticipated resistance from those opposed to progress.
The Olowu concluded by assuring support alongside the Alake to ensure the successful execution of the new master plan, timely completion of the Ajebo-Idi Aba Express Road, revitalisation of Abeokuta City Centre, and other strategic development projects.
He further noted that effective leadership is central to development, praising the summit members for their selfless service and commitment.
Following the palace discussions, Dr. Adeoye and Captain Okesanjo inspected key structures around Olumo Rock, identifying historical buildings to be preserved as tourist attractions.
Stakeholders agreed that safeguarding Abeokuta’s development from obstruction, whether by error or deliberate action, is a collective responsibility.
Dr. Adeoye also commended the Federal Ministry of Works for commencing night repairs on the Sango-Otta–Abeokuta-Ewekoro road and urged urgent attention to the Apata-Ibadan–Abeokuta and OGTV–Ajebo roads to unlock the economic potential of towns and villages including Ajebo, Erunwon, Owojo, Obafemi, Kajola, Alapako, Olosun, Layanran, Mosafejo, and Oyebola.
