The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Lafenwa Division, Ogun State, has honoured outstanding police officers and committed members for their dedication to community policing and improved security at its End-of-the-Year and New Year celebration.
The event, held recently in Abeokuta, brought together security stakeholders, community leaders and residents to give thanks to God and renew commitments to strengthening police-community collaboration.
Speaking at the programme, the Ogun State Chairman of PCRC, Venerable Dr Samson Kunle Popoola, charged parents to take greater responsibility for monitoring their children, describing youths as the backbone of national development.
Popoola urged young people to embrace decency, diligence and lawful living, warning against shortcuts to wealth, rituals and other immoral practices.
He said, “There is no alternative to hard work and discipline. Parents must guide their children properly, while youths must understand that success comes through legitimate means.”
In her lecture titled ‘An Idle Hand Is the Workshop of the Devil,’ the guest speaker, Barrister Olaide Margaret Ogunseye, advised parents to have only the number of children they could adequately cater for and called on youths to reject get-rich-quick schemes, jungle justice and social vices.
She stressed that integrity, patience and lawful engagement remained the surest paths to lasting success.
Also speaking, the Divisional Police Officer of Lafenwa Division, CSP Kenneth Iyayi, commended PCRC members for their unwavering support, noting that their cooperation had significantly enhanced policing and crime prevention efforts within the division.
Iyayi said the synergy between the police and the community had made security operations more effective and responsive to public needs.
In his remarks, the Patron of PCRC Lafenwa Division and Ogun State PCRC Patron, Ambassador Prophet Olayinka Sonola Emmanuel (JP), urged wealthy Nigerians and corporate bodies to support security agencies, stressing that safety was a collective responsibility.
“Security cannot be left to government alone. Communities must actively support law enforcement agencies to achieve sustainable peace,” he said.
The event climaxed with the presentation of awards to deserving officers and PCRC members, goodwill messages and renewed commitments to strengthening community-based policing for a safer society.
