The Police Service Commission, PSC, and the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, have recorded over 400,000 applications in the ongoing recruitment of 50,000 police constables, with Kaduna and Benue states emerging among those with the highest number of applicants.
The development was disclosed in a press release issued on Monday through the force’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, X handle, announcing a two-week extension of the application deadline to allow for wider participation across the country.
Hundeyin announced that the recruitment portal, which opened on December 15, 2025, will now close on February 8, 2026.
According to the commission, the extension became necessary after a review revealed significant disparities in applications across states.
While Kaduna, Benue and Adamawa recorded high numbers, states such as Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Ebonyi and Anambra were found to have relatively low submissions.
“The extension aims to ensure equitable representation nationwide,” the PSC said, urging eligible Nigerians, particularly in states with low turnout, to take advantage of the new deadline and apply through the official portal.
The high turnout in states like Kaduna and Benue comes against the backdrop of persistent security challenges in parts of the North-West and North-Central regions, where communities have faced repeated attacks by bandits and other armed groups in recent years.
The PSC therefore called on state governments, local government councils, traditional and religious leaders, as well as civil society and community organisations, to intensify sensitisation efforts to ensure broader awareness of the recruitment exercise.
“The PSC and NPF reaffirm their commitment to a fair and transparent recruitment process,” the statement added.
