The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reaffirmed its capacity to meet and exceed Nigeria’s domestic fuel needs, pledging daily supplies of 75 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol), 25 million litres of Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) and 20 million litres of aviation fuel.
In a public notice issued on Wednesday, the refinery said the volumes significantly surpass the country’s estimated daily consumption of about 50 million litres of petrol, 14 million litres of diesel and four million litres of jet fuel, providing a critical buffer against shortages and reducing dependence on imports.
The company said, “The management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery would like to reiterate our capability to supply the underlisted petroleum products of the highest international quality standard to marketers and stakeholders,” adding that surplus availability would enhance market stability, strengthen inventory cover and cushion the downstream sector against logistical disruptions, especially during peak demand periods.
Industry analysts said the refinery’s ability to produce above domestic requirements could curb emergency imports, stabilise prices and improve confidence across the downstream petroleum value chain.
The company also reaffirmed its commitment to full regulatory compliance and cooperation with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, noting that its supply strategy aligns with ongoing efforts to ensure orderly market operations and national energy security.
According to the refinery, it remains fully engaged with regulators and industry stakeholders as Nigeria deepens its transition from fuel import dependence to domestic refining. It added that sustained local production would deliver benefits including reliable supply, competitive pricing and improved market discipline for consumers nationwide.
With domestic refining capacity expanding, stakeholders believe Nigeria is increasingly positioned to cut foreign exchange exposure, strengthen supply security and improve downstream efficiency through locally refined petroleum products.
