The Kano State Police Command has arrested three men for allegedly using a fake bank credit alert to purchase a luxury Mercedes-Benz GLE valued at ₦75 million in Abuja before fleeing to Kano.
Those arrested were identified as Ibrahim Tijjani, Jamilu Auwal and Mohammed Nura Dauda. The suspects were apprehended on January 28, 2026, at Kabuga Quarters in Kano, following intelligence-led investigations by detectives of the command.
In a statement on Saturday, the police spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the suspects allegedly defrauded a car dealer in Gwarinpa, Abuja, by presenting a fraudulent credit alert sent by one Ibrahim Yahaya, who is currently on the run.
“The suspects allegedly used a fake alert to take possession of a Mercedes-Benz GLE worth ₦75 million. Upon receipt of the report, the command swung into action, tracked the suspects to Kano and recovered the vehicle,” Kiyawa said.
He added that the recovered vehicle had since been handed over to the Federal Capital Territory Police Command for further investigation and prosecution, while efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect.
Commending the operatives for their swift response and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious financial transactions to security agencies.
Bakori warned that the command would not relent in its crackdown on fraud and other criminal activities, assuring residents of sustained efforts to protect lives, property and commercial transactions across the state.
Police authorities said the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
