… Security Agencies Vow Swift Arrest Of Perpetrators

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has sacked political appointees and revoked the recognition of traditional rulers in the Amasiri community following a violent land dispute that left four people dead and several properties destroyed.
The crisis erupted between Amasiri in Afikpo Local Government Area and neighbouring Okporojo village in Oso community of Edda Local Government Area.
Eyewitnesses said the clash was brutal, with homes razed and lives lost in gruesome circumstances.
Speaking during a visit to Okporojo on Saturday, Governor Nwifuru accused the Amasiri leadership of failing to ensure lasting peace. He warned that the government would no longer tolerate such lawlessness.
“All government appointees from Amasiri, from local government management committee members to commissioners, are hereby relieved of their appointments,” he declared.
“Traditional rulers will have their certificates of recognition withdrawn, and all town union leaderships dissolved.”
The governor urged the Amasiri community not to misinterpret his actions as hostility. “I only speak the truth. We love the Amasiri people. They must have a change of heart and uphold peace,” he said.
Governor Nwifuru assured the Okporojo people of government protection and swift justice for the victims. “I beg them to shun reprisals. Security agencies have acted promptly, and perpetrators will be arrested and prosecuted,” he added.
Chima Ekuma-Nkama, Chairman of Edda Local Government, expressed gratitude to the governor for his intervention.
“The people had felt abandoned by the government. Seeing the governor here has restored their faith,” he said, describing the attacks as “shocking and inhumane.”
One resident, Joy Okoro, who lost a relative and saw her home destroyed, pleaded for justice. “All we want is justice. Only that will help us believe in life again,” she said.
Governor Nwifuru was accompanied on the visit by top security officials and senior state government officers.
