Residents of Dunshigogo community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have been thrown into panic following a reported threat letter from suspected Boko Haram insurgents, barely days after a deadly attack on neighbouring Worro community left scores dead and the monarch missing.
Sources told PLATFORM TIMES on Sunday that the letter, allegedly delivered to Dunshigogo, warned residents of an imminent attack in language similar to that reportedly sent to Worro shortly before the massacre that claimed over 170 lives.
A community source said businesses had begun shutting down as residents fled in droves. “Information reaching me is that Dunshigogo has been served the same type of letter as Worro.
People are closing shops and leaving en masse. Nobody knows who to call again without endangering lives,” the source said.
Efforts to obtain a copy of the letter or independently verify its authenticity were unsuccessful as of press time.
Security agencies in Kwara State were also yet to issue an official statement on the reported threat.
The development has heightened fears across Kaiama and surrounding communities, coming just days after suspected terrorists stormed Worro, killing men, women and children in what residents described as a coordinated and brutal assault.
Among the victims were two wives of the Emir of Worro, several of his children, the Chief Imam of the town, a school principal, a headmistress and students who had just returned from school.
The monarch, Alhaji Saliu Bio Umar, is still missing, raising fears that he may have been abducted or killed.
Witnesses said the attackers invaded the community in the evening, killing indiscriminately and setting parts of the town ablaze. Some victims were reportedly slaughtered in their homes and on farmlands, while travellers passing through the area were also attacked.
Security sources had linked the assailants to a Boko Haram faction allegedly operating along forest corridors connecting the North-Central and North-West regions, with suspected ties to terrorist networks across the Sahel.
Kwara State, once considered relatively insulated from large-scale insurgent violence, has in recent years witnessed rising insecurity, particularly in border communities close to forested areas.
Residents of Dunshigogo and neighbouring settlements are now calling on the Federal Government and security agencies to urgently deploy troops and reassure communities to prevent another bloodbath.
As of press time, authorities were yet to confirm the reported threat or announce any additional security measures in the area.
