An officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has been abducted by suspected terrorists in Ekiti State, with a disturbing video circulating online showing the victim being brutally beaten by his captors.
The footage, which surfaced on Sunday, shows heavily armed men flogging the officer with a cane while ordering him to face forward. The visibly distressed officer was heard pleading for mercy as the assault continued.
“I don dey look. Sorry, I use Allah beg you,” the victim said in pidgin English while crying.
The incident was brought to public attention by social commentator and activist, Rinu Oduala, who raised concerns over what she described as the apparent delay in security response days after the abduction.
In a post shared on her social media handle, Oduala alleged that as of the time of her statement, there was no visible rescue operation to secure the officer’s release.
“A NSCDC officer has been reportedly kidnapped in Ekiti, Nigeria by terrorists who released this video brutally beating him. Till now, security agencies are yet to launch a search for him,” she wrote.
As of press time, the exact location of the abduction within Ekiti State and the circumstances surrounding the incident remained unclear. Efforts to obtain official confirmation from authorities were ongoing.
When contacted, sources within the Corps said they were aware of the incident but declined to provide details, citing operational security concerns.
The abduction adds to growing security worries in parts of the South-West, where incidents of kidnapping and attacks by armed groups have heightened fears among residents.
Security analysts have repeatedly called for improved intelligence gathering and inter-agency collaboration to stem the tide of kidnappings and violent attacks targeting both civilians and security personnel.
The NSCDC, a paramilitary agency tasked with protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, has yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
