The Ogunleye Royal Family of Akinale-Owu in Ogun State has announced the death of Olori Rachael Olanike Ogunleye (née Akinola), wife of the late Towulade of Akinale-Owu, Oba Olufemi Ogunleye.
Olori Ogunleye died on February 9, 2026, at the age of 66, according to a statement issued by the family on Tuesday.
Described as a distinguished educationist and child development expert, the late matriarch of the Ogunleye royal family carved a niche for herself in Nigeria’s education sector, where she mentored generations of pupils and educators across leading institutions.
She taught at Grange School, Ikeja; St Saviour’s School, Ebute Meta; and St Saviour’s School, Ikoyi, before rising to leadership roles in several top schools.
She served as Headmistress at Corona School, Ikoyi; Corona School, Apapa; and Corona School, Gbagada. She also held the position of Acting Principal at Corona Secondary School, Agbara.
Until her death, Olori Ogunleye was the Manager in charge of Tourism and Museum as well as Head of Administration and Procurement at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta.
Family members said she was widely respected for her commitment to academic excellence, child development, and public service.
“She devoted her life to nurturing young minds and contributing meaningfully to national development through education and cultural preservation,” the statement read.
Olori Ogunleye is survived by her children ; Subulade, Tewogbade, Damilola, Olumide, Bunmi, Funke and Dele as well as her siblings, Mrs Jumoke Akinkoye; Sir (Dr) Charles Diji Akinola, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the South West Development Commission; and Sir Gbola Akinola (SAN).
The family said funeral arrangements would be announced in due course.
