The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has confirmed that the sexual assault allegation involving TikTok content creator Mirabel has been referred to appropriate authorities in Ogun State following preliminary findings that the incident occurred outside Lagos.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the agency disclosed that it had established contact with a close associate of the survivor, who confirmed that she had been discharged from hospital care.
“Following our earlier statement and the public response, we successfully established communication with a close friend of the survivor, who confirmed that she has been discharged from the hospital,” the agency said.
The case, which trended on social media under the hashtag #StopRapingWomen, sparked widespread outrage and renewed calls for stronger protection for survivors of sexual violence across the country.
According to information shared online by the survivor, the alleged assault occurred on Sunday, February 15, and was made public the following day, drawing significant public attention.
However, the agency clarified that its preliminary investigation revealed that the incident did not take place within Lagos State.
“We have since confirmed that the incident occurred in Ogun State and is therefore outside the jurisdiction of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency,” the statement read.
The agency added that, in line with inter-agency collaboration and survivor protection protocols, all relevant information had been forwarded to authorities in Ogun State to ensure continuity of investigation.
“In the spirit of interagency collaboration and survivor protection, all relevant information at our disposal has been forwarded to the appropriate authorities in Ogun State,” it stated.
The DSVA expressed confidence that the matter is currently being handled by the Ogun State Police Command and stressed the importance of the survivor’s cooperation to facilitate a thorough investigation and due process.
“We understand that the Ogun State Police Command is currently handling the matter, and we trust that the survivor will fully cooperate with the appropriate authorities to enable a thorough investigation and due process,” the agency added.
Reaffirming its mandate, the DSVA reiterated its commitment to supporting survivors of sexual and domestic violence, urging members of the public to report cases through its designated channels.
