Fawaz Adebisi, a reporter with deep roots at Platform Times, has been nominated for the Patsy Robertson Award for Outstanding Communications Skills in Advancing Community Development and Peace, a distinguished category of the 2026 Commonwealth Youth Awards.
The recognition, drawn from 977 applicants across the Commonwealth, celebrates young journalists who harness media to promote social justice, accountability, and community development.
Adebisi’s nomination underscores the impact of investigative journalism in shaping public discourse.
He rose through the ranks from campus journalism to leading professional exposés on poverty, social neglect, and systemic challenges.
As a team member of the Investigative Desk at PLATFORM TIMES, he combined data-driven reporting, multimedia storytelling, and photography to amplify marginalized voices across Nigeria.
His acclaimed series on Nigeria’s leprosy colonies brought attention to the struggles of over 3,000 survivors and their families in Abuja, Lagos, and Ogun states.
The reports not only shed light on decades of stigma but also triggered government engagement, including visits by Federal Capital Territory health officials.
“Investigative journalism is a bridge for development and peace,” Adebisi said.
“Platform Times has given me the platform to amplify the voices of the unheard and drive tangible community impact.”
Adebisi’s career began with contributions to the Platform Times Investigative Journalism Foundation (PTIJF), covering critical issues like HIV/AIDS and climate change in Ogun State.
His work has earned multiple accolades, including first runner-up at the 2025 Alfred Opubor Campus Journalism Awards for his leprosy investigation, organised by the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development.
The winners of the 2026 Commonwealth Youth Awards will be announced on March 11, 2026, but Adebisi’s shortlisting already highlights the rising influence of Nigerian media on the global stage.
