The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has launched the eighth phase of its Constituency and Executive Projects Tracking Exercise in Katsina State, scrutinising 39 ongoing projects valued at N13.5 billion.
The projects span the state’s three senatorial districts and federal constituencies, covering health, education, infrastructure, water supply, and empowerment initiatives.
The exercise, which began Monday, aims to ensure accountability, verify compliance with approved specifications, and guarantee value for taxpayers’ money.
ICPC teams are working alongside representatives from the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors and media personnel to conduct detailed on-site inspections.
According to ICPC Director of Operations, Ludam Samuel, the exercise has already revealed gaps in some projects.
“While several projects meet expected standards, others require contractors to return to the sites to address identified deficiencies,” he said.
The tracking exercise has so far inspected:
Health facilities in Katsina metropolis ;
Road constructions in Funtua and Kankia ;
Water supply schemes in Kurfi, Dutsin-Ma, Mashi, and Dutsi Local Government Areas ; School development projects in Kafur, Sandamu, Daura, and Mai’Adua ; Solar-powered streetlight installations and various empowerment programmes across the state
The initiative is part of ICPC’s nationwide drive to strengthen transparency in the execution of publicly funded projects and curb mismanagement or diversion of resources.
Contractors have been directed to promptly rectify any deficiencies highlighted during inspections.
The exercise remains ongoing, with the commission promising strict follow-ups to ensure all projects are completed according to approved plans and budgets.
