President Bola Tinubu on Monday night pledged to establish state police across Nigeria to curb escalating insecurity, describing security as the foundation for national prosperity.
Speaking at an interfaith Ramadan and Lent breaking of fast with state governors at the Presidential Villa, Tinubu said his administration would fulfill promises made to Nigerians before assuming office in 2023.
He urged governors to intensify grassroots development, saying: “To reach the young man who feels forgotten. To lift the woman who carries her family on tired shoulders. To touch communities where hope sometimes flickers.
Development must not recognise religion. Compassion must not recognise tribe. Opportunity must not recognise status.”
The President stressed that state police would empower states to protect their citizens while reinforcing national security. “This is not about politics. It is about practicality,” he said. “Nigeria will be safer. Nigeria will be stronger. And together, we must commit to making it so.”
Tinubu’s pledge comes amid rising concerns over banditry, kidnapping, and other security threats that have disrupted farms, businesses, and families across the country.
He concluded by reassuring Nigerians: “What I promised will not be postponed. Security is the foundation of prosperity. Without it, farms cannot flourish, businesses cannot grow, and families cannot sleep in peace.”
