A visitor simply identified as Ade has been arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle suspected hard drugs concealed in cooked food into the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Agodi, Ibadan.
The Nigerian Correctional Service, Oyo State Command, said the suspect was apprehended during routine screening of visitors at the facility.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Olanrewaju Anjorin, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
According to him, the male visitor, who claimed he came to see an inmate, aroused suspicion during security checks at the entrance of the custodial centre.
Anjorin said a thorough search of the food items he brought , a portion of cooked rice and pasta led to the discovery of substances suspected to be Colorado and hemp carefully concealed inside the meal.
“The suspect was intercepted during routine checks on visitors and their belongings. On closer examination, officers discovered substances suspected to be hard drugs hidden inside cooked rice and pasta,” the statement read.
He added that preliminary investigation revealed inconsistencies in the suspect’s explanation regarding the purpose of his visit, raising further suspicion of an attempt to beat security.
The suspect has since been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Controller of Corrections, Oyo State Command, Mr Olusegun Osogun, commended the officers for their vigilance and professionalism, noting that the swift interception underscored the Service’s zero tolerance for smuggling and other unlawful activities within custodial facilities.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Command to safeguarding all custodial centres in the state and preventing the infiltration of contraband materials.
The Command also urged members of the public to cooperate with correctional authorities and desist from engaging in acts capable of undermining security in custodial facilities.
