Controversial Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has spoken publicly for the first time since regaining his freedom, declaring that human beings are “more wicked than venomous snakes.”
The actor made the statement in a viral music video released about three months after completing his prison sentence.
Baba Ijesha had been released in November 2025 after serving a five-year jail term following his conviction over the sexual assault of a minor.
The case, which generated nationwide outrage in 2021, stemmed from allegations by comedian and actress, Damilola Adekoya, popularly known as Princess, who accused the actor of sexually assaulting her 14-year-old foster daughter at her residence in Lagos.
In the newly circulated video, Baba Ijesha claimed he was framed and insisted that the incident which led to his imprisonment was a set-up by Princess, whom he described as a former close friend.
Narrating his version of events, the actor alleged that he was lured to Princess’ residence under the guise of being offered a movie role and a meal.
According to him, the incident occurred on April 21, 2021, when he received a call inviting him over.
He said, “My trust was betrayed. I ended up in Kirikiri prison because of a woman. They tried to silence me so that my voice would not be heard.
“She called me and said she was preparing my favourite food — pounded yam with egusi soup and bush meat. When I got there, I met some people and they said we were going to rehearse for a movie role.
“I didn’t know there was no movie. It was all a set-up.”
The actor further warned members of the public to be cautious in their relationships with friends, stressing that betrayal often comes from trusted associates.
“Please my fans should be careful with friends. They cannot always be trusted. Human beings are more wicked than snakes,” he said.
Baba Ijesha’s conviction in 2021 sparked intense debate across Nigeria, particularly within the entertainment industry and on social media, where calls for justice for the victim gained widespread support.
His recent comments have also triggered renewed conversations online about the highly publicised case and its aftermath.
