Panic gripped residents of Mallamawar Yari village in the Gawakuke ward of Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Saturday night after suspected bandits, reportedly disguised in women’s hijabs, launched a deadly attack on the community.
The assailants were said to have stormed the village under the cover of darkness, killing several residents and abducting an unspecified number of people.
Details of the attack were disclosed on Sunday by a security analyst, Bakatsine, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), where he alleged that the attackers wore women’s hijabs to avoid raising suspicion while moving within the community.
According to him, the disguise enabled the gunmen to infiltrate the village before unleashing violence on unsuspecting residents.
“Last night, armed bandits reportedly disguised in women’s hijabs attacked Mallamawar Yari village in Gawakuke ward, Rabah LGA of Sokoto State. Several residents were killed and many others abducted during the attack,” he wrote.
He added that the development had heightened fears among residents as incidents of banditry continue to plague several communities in the state.
Bakatsine questioned the effectiveness of security measures in the region, noting that attacks had persisted despite repeated assurances by authorities.
“With attacks continuing across communities in Sokoto State, the question remains: what concrete measures are being taken to halt the growing wave of insecurity in the state?” he queried.
