No fewer than 500 Muslim faithful have benefited from the distribution of food items and cash organised by a member of the support group of the senator representing Ogun West, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The outreach, spearheaded by Hon. Wale Sowole, was carried out across several mosques in the state capital as part of Ramadan support for worshippers observing the fasting period.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the distribution took place at Ita Baki Mosque in Elega, Fadama Central Mosque in Bode Olude, Akorede Central Mosque in Saje, Imale Nfe Alafia Mosque in Oke Saje, and Istijaba Mosque in Fadama.
Speaking during the exercise, Sowole, who is popularly known as Wale Yayi, said the initiative was designed to provide relief to Muslim faithful during the holy month while also supporting the people-oriented programmes of Senator Adeola.
He noted that the outreach was also intended to encourage the beneficiaries to pray for the senator’s governorship ambition in Ogun State.
According to him, the Ramadan season presents an opportunity for spiritual reflection and prayers, which he said could positively influence the political aspiration of the lawmaker.
“We want you to utilise this holy month of Ramadan to pray for Senator Yayi’s governorship ambition. If this wish is granted, you will enjoy the real dividends of democracy,” Sowole said.
He added that beyond the food and cash distribution, the group had concluded plans to roll out several empowerment programmes aimed at improving the living conditions of residents across the state.
“Our assurance to the people is that we will do our best to eradicate poverty through empowerment. As many have witnessed across the state, Yayi has already done much and is ready to do even more for the betterment of Ogun State,” he said.
Beneficiaries at the various mosques expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing the intervention as timely during the Ramadan fasting period.
They also offered prayers for the success of Senator Adeola’s political aspirations and commended the Wale Yayi support group for the initiative.
