The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two applicants seeking enlistment into the Nigeria Police Force for allegedly presenting forged certificates during an ongoing recruitment screening exercise in the state.
The suspects were apprehended at the Police Training School in Bauchi after officials conducting the screening reportedly discovered that the candidates submitted fake results purportedly issued by the National Examinations Council.
The development was disclosed in a statement released on Friday by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar.
According to him, the screening exercise was supervised by the head of the recruitment team, A.Y. Dickson, who led officials responsible for vetting candidates participating in the ongoing police recruitment exercise.
Abubakar explained that a total of 403 applicants were screened during the exercise, comprising 354 candidates for General Duty and 49 specialists.
He, however, said two of the applicants were arrested after officials discovered that the NECO results they presented were forged.
“The team screened 354 General Duty applicants and 49 specialists, making a total of 403 candidates,” the statement said.
“Two candidates were arrested with forged NECO results. Interestingly, both suspects bear the same name, Yusuf Usman, and had been moving together throughout the screening process before their documents were detected to be fake.”
The police spokesman said the head of the screening team subsequently ordered that the suspects be handed over to the Divisional Police Officer of ‘E’ Division in Bauchi for further investigation and possible prosecution.
He warned prospective applicants against engaging in fraudulent practices during recruitment exercises, stressing that the police would not hesitate to take action against anyone found attempting to gain entry into the force through illegal means.
The arrest occurred as the Nigeria Police Force continues its nationwide recruitment exercise aimed at enlisting 50,000 new constables into the force, a process that commenced earlier in the week.
