The Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria, Ogun State chapter, has commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for what it described as decisive reforms that rescued the state’s waste management system from imminent collapse.
The state chairman of the association, Pastor Jolaoluwa Emmanuel Gbenga, in a statement, said recent administrative changes introduced by the government had addressed longstanding operational challenges within the Ogun State Waste Management Authority.
Gbenga noted that the intervention helped to resolve critical bottlenecks that had hampered effective waste evacuation across the state, thereby restoring confidence in the sector.
He also congratulated Farouk Akintunde on his appointment as the Managing Director of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority and Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, expressing optimism that his leadership would sustain the ongoing improvements.
According to him, Akintunde has already demonstrated capacity by introducing measures that have enhanced operational efficiency within the agency.
The association further applauded the state government’s plan to support Private Sector Participation operators with high-capacity compactor trucks, describing the initiative as a major boost to waste collection and disposal efforts.
Gbenga said the planned intervention, conveyed through the Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, would significantly strengthen service delivery and ensure cleaner communities across Ogun State.
He reaffirmed the association’s commitment to partnering with the government to achieve a more sustainable and efficient waste management system.
