The Muslim Advocacy Group has welcomed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Ogun State ahead of the commissioning of the Gateway International Airport, describing the project as a catalyst for economic growth and regional development.
In a statement issued on Saturday by its Publicity Secretary, Abdul Semi’u Adebesin, the group said the President’s visit to inaugurate the airport marked a major milestone in the state’s infrastructural advancement and investment drive.
The group noted that the airport would significantly enhance connectivity, open up Ogun State to increased local and foreign investments, and strengthen its position as a strategic economic hub in Nigeria.
It also commended the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, for delivering what it described as a landmark project, saying the feat reflected the administration’s commitment to sustainable development and long-term economic planning.
“The Gateway International Airport is a bold and visionary project that underscores purposeful leadership and a clear roadmap for economic expansion,” the statement read.
While applauding the project, the group reiterated its call for fairness and inclusiveness in the political leadership of the state, particularly ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
It observed that since the creation of Ogun State in 1976, only one Muslim had been democratically elected governor, despite the significant contributions of Muslims to the state’s socio-economic development.
The group recalled that at the end of that administration, appeals for a Christian successor in the interest of equity were honoured, stressing that the same principle should guide political considerations as the current administration winds down.
“In the spirit of justice, equity and consistency, it is only fair and appropriate for a Muslim to emerge as governor in the 2027 elections,” the group stated.
According to the organisation, Ogun State boasts a pool of competent and capable Muslim leaders who can effectively steer the affairs of the state, adding that its position was driven by the need to promote unity, inclusion and balanced representation.
The group, however, wished the President a successful commissioning ceremony and prayed for continued peace, progress and prosperity in Ogun State and the country at large.
