The Nigeria Police Force in Ogun State has recorded a significant breakthrough in traffic management following the success of its “No Traffic Gridlock” operation in Ifo, which led to the arrest of traffic offenders and the removal of obstructions along the busy Abeokuta–Lagos Expressway.
The operation, spearheaded by the Divisional Police Officer of Ifo Division, CSP Kamorudeen Olabisi, was aimed at restoring sanity and ensuring the free flow of traffic in the area, long plagued by congestion and illegal road activities.
Findings revealed that the exercise resulted in the clearance of impediments that had hitherto disrupted vehicular movement, easing transportation for commuters and residents who rely heavily on the route for daily activities.
Speaking on the development, Prince Adewale M. Asade commended the DPO and his team for what he described as “exemplary leadership and operational excellence,” noting that the initiative reflected a proactive and people-oriented approach to policing.
He stated that the success of the operation underscored the importance of strategic coordination and commitment to public order, adding that such efforts were crucial to safeguarding livelihoods and enhancing public safety.
Asade further noted that the initiative had reinforced public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force, stressing that effective policing should not only focus on enforcement but also on maintaining order and supporting socio-economic activities.
“The achievement is worthy of commendation and should serve as a model for other divisions across the state,” he said.
He urged sustained efforts to ensure lasting compliance and continuous monitoring of traffic activities within the axis.
The Abeokuta–Lagos Expressway is a major economic corridor linking Ogun and Lagos states, and has frequently experienced traffic bottlenecks due to illegal parking, roadside trading, and poor traffic discipline.
Residents and motorists have since expressed relief over the improved traffic flow, calling for the sustenance of the operation to prevent a relapse into gridlock.
