President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday night held a closed-door meeting with a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, Teslim Folarin, in what observers describe as an early signal of political realignments ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The meeting, which took place at the President’s Ikoyi residence in Lagos, was confirmed by Folarin via his verified social media handles, although details of the discussions were not disclosed.
Folarin, who represented Oyo Central in the Senate and flew the APC governorship flag in the 2023 election, remains a key figure within the party’s structure in the state.
Findings by PLATFORM TIMES indicate that the engagement may not be unconnected with ongoing consultations within the ruling party over its strategy to reclaim power in Oyo State in 2027.
Party sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, hinted that the APC leadership has intensified behind-the-scenes moves to reposition the party, following its loss in the last governorship poll.
Another prominent APC figure in the state, Sharafadeen Alli, is also said to be in the mix, having reportedly met with the President in recent times, fuelling speculations about possible contenders for the party’s ticket.
Though the Presidency has yet to issue an official statement on the meeting, analysts say the renewed high-level consultations underscore the growing importance of Oyo State in the APC’s broader political calculations.
With more than a year before formal campaign activities are expected to begin, political watchers believe the ruling party may be seeking to avoid internal divisions that affected its chances in the previous election cycle.
