Troops of the Nigerian Army have intensified offensive operations against bandits in Bauchi State, overrunning key camps, arresting family members of suspected criminals and destroying logistics in a major clearance operation.
An operational report obtained on Wednesday indicated that the exercise was carried out by troops of the 33 Artillery Brigade in collaboration with a team from the Office of the National Security Adviser.
The report stated that the troops successfully dislodged bandits from notorious hideouts, including the Azuge and Hari camps located in the Dajin Madam forest, dealing a significant blow to criminal activities in the area.
It added that several bandits were neutralised during the operation, while others fled under sustained military pressure.
“In the course of the operation, troops took into custody 19 family members of the bandits, comprising six women and 13 children,” the report said.
Recovered items from the camps included AK-47 magazines, quantities of tramadol, impersonation materials, police and military uniforms, as well as two horses.
The report further noted that several motorcycles used by the bandits were destroyed, thereby limiting their mobility and operational capacity.
To consolidate the gains, troops were said to have established a strong presence within the forest to prevent the return of fleeing criminals.
In a related development, troops conducted a follow-up clearance operation at Mainamaji, a location recently targeted by air strikes on bandits’ enclaves.
According to the report, no contact was made with suspected criminals during the operation, suggesting that sustained military offensives had significantly weakened their presence in the area.
The Army reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on criminal elements until lasting peace is restored, while urging members of the public to provide timely and credible intelligence to support ongoing operations.
