Property owners in Iki Lisa Village, via Ogijo in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State, have appealed to the state government to intervene in an alleged land grabbing dispute threatening their investments and safety.
The aggrieved landowners accused the village head, Chief Owolabi Obasanya, of reselling parcels of land previously allocated to them, despite earlier assurances that the community was free from such disputes.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that each of the affected individuals had purchased one acre of land in the village, with transactions reportedly backed by receipts issued in the name of Obasanya Owolabi (Destiny) on behalf of the family, as well as another document linked to the Olisa Rabugbawa Family, signed by its secretary.
One of the receipts sighted by our correspondent indicated that a buyer paid N1.8 million for a plot of land on November 18, 2023, and subsequently marked the boundaries of the property.
However, the landowners said their recent visit to the community revealed that parts of their land had been resold to other buyers.
They alleged that at least three plots from a single acre had already been taken over and fenced off by new occupants, allegedly with the consent of the same village head who facilitated the initial sale.
“We were shocked to discover that the Baale who sold the land to us had begun reselling portions of it to others,” one of the affected landowners, who preferred anonymity, said.
“In one case, three plots from a single acre have already been sold and fenced. The Baale was reportedly boastful and unapologetic about his actions.”
The landowners further alleged that the village head issued threats when confronted, heightening fears for their safety.
“He used threatening words and claimed he could do whatever he wished with the land without facing any consequences,” another source added.
The aggrieved investors have now called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to urgently intervene in the matter to prevent further encroachment and ensure justice.
They warned that failure to address the issue could lead to the loss of their investments and pose a risk to their lives.
Efforts to reach the village head for comments were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
