The Nigeria Customs Service has raised fresh concerns over an alleged plot by terrorists to launch coordinated attacks on key national assets in the Federal Capital Territory and neighbouring Niger State.
According to an internal security memo obtained by TheCable, the planned targets include the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, a correctional facility within Abuja, and a military detention centre in Niger State.
The memo, which has reportedly been circulated among relevant security and intelligence agencies, warned of imminent threats and urged heightened vigilance as well as proactive countermeasures to prevent possible breaches.
It was gathered that the alert forms part of ongoing intelligence-sharing efforts among security agencies amid renewed fears of attacks on critical infrastructure across the country.
Although the document did not disclose the identities of the suspected groups behind the plot or specify the timing of the planned assaults, it emphasised the need for intensified surveillance and coordination among security operatives.
Efforts to get official confirmation from security authorities were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report. However, sources within the security community indicated that precautionary steps were already being taken to forestall any potential attack.
The latest alert comes against the backdrop of persistent security challenges in parts of Nigeria, with authorities under pressure to safeguard strategic installations and public spaces from terrorist threats.
