An aggrieved employee, James Oketa, has demanded N22.3 million in compensation from his former employer, Super Engineering Company Limited, over what he described as the unlawful termination of his appointment.
Oketa, who worked with the company located within the Ikorodu Industrial Estate in Lagos, was allegedly dismissed on December 5, 2024, after about 30 years of service.
The company was said to have cited his involvement in union activities as the reason for his disengagement.
However, in a letter dated February 5, 2026, addressed to the firm’s Managing Director, Oketa’s lawyers, Zimra Attorneys (Legal Practitioners & Associates), described the dismissal as illegal and a violation of his fundamental right to freedom of association.
The legal team argued that the grounds for the termination were unjustifiable and amounted to an infringement on the worker’s constitutional rights.
They are demanding a total sum of N22,297,550 as compensation, covering unpaid salaries from December 2024 to February 2026, alongside damages for the alleged wrongful termination.
Efforts to resolve the dispute appear to have shifted to legal channels, with both parties already engaging counsel.
Reacting, the Managing Director of the company, identified simply as DeGab, said the matter was already before the firm’s legal adviser.
“The matter is being handled by our lawyer, and we are not authorised to speak to anybody about it,” he said.
He added, “Our lawyer responded to his letter from one counsel, only for him to engage another.”
As of the time of filing this report, no court filing had been confirmed, but sources indicated that the dispute may soon head for litigation if both parties fail to reach an amicable resolution.
