Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, on Saturday outlined key lifestyle principles he said could help octogenarians live beyond 90 years, urging discipline in rest, diet, and physical activity.
Obasanjo gave the advice in Osogbo, Osun State, during the 80th birthday celebration and book launch of the Asiwaju Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta states, Olatunde Badmus.
Represented by Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, the former President described Badmus as a successful businessman and devoted leader, noting that his achievements were rooted in faith and diligence.
He charged the celebrant and other elderly Nigerians to adopt healthy routines, including eight hours of sleep daily, regular exercise, and a controlled diet.
“At the age of 80, let me welcome you to this club. The rules are simple: you must sleep for eight hours every day, engage in at least one hour of exercise such as walking, and eat only twice daily,” Obasanjo said.
“With obedience to these rules, your longevity beyond 90 years is assured,” he added.
In his remarks, Adeleke praised Badmus, who is the chairman of Tuns Farms Limited, describing him as a statesman with significant contributions to business and society at local and international levels.
Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, also lauded the octogenarian’s enduring commitment to both business and faith, announcing a donation of N100m in support of the book launch.
Dangote recalled his early encounters with Badmus, describing him as a role model for young entrepreneurs.
“I was a young businessman when I met Baba. I want young entrepreneurs to learn from him. He has remained consistent in both business and religion,” he said.
The business mogul further called on Nigerians to foster unity and actively contribute to nation-building, stressing that national development should not be left solely in the hands of leaders.
Also speaking, the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, commended Badmus for his strong business reputation and patriotic disposition, urging Nigerians to emulate his commitment to societal progress.
As part of activities marking the celebration, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, commissioned a mosque built by the celebrant in Osogbo.
The event drew prominent dignitaries from across the country, highlighting Badmus’ influence in business, religion, and national development.
