Former Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun, has expressed grief over the death of the Chief Imam of Yewaland, Sikirullah Babalola, describing the late Islamic cleric as a symbol of unity and peace.
Babalola, who was also the President of the League of Imams and Alfas in Ogun State, died on Saturday at the age of 98.
In a condolence message issued on Sunday, Amosun said the cleric’s passing was a monumental loss not only to the Muslim community in Yewaland but also to the entire Ogun State and beyond.
He noted that the late nonagenarian devoted his life to the service of Islam and humanity, earning widespread respect as a spiritual leader and scholar.
Amosun said, “Sheikh Sikirullah Babalola was a symbol of peace, unity, and exemplary leadership. His unwavering commitment to fostering harmony and strengthening the bond within the Muslim Ummah in Yewaland and Ogun State will remain unforgettable.”
The former governor added that Babalola’s leadership as Chief Imam and head of the League of Imams and Alfas was marked by selfless service and dedication to the growth of Islam and communal coexistence.
He prayed that Allah grants the deceased Aljannah Firdaus and gives his family, associates, and the Muslim faithful the strength to bear the loss.
