The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old housewife, Sadiya Lawal, for allegedly attempting to kill her husband by slitting his throat while he was asleep in Katsina metropolis.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, saying the suspect is currently in police custody while investigations continue.
According to the statement, the victim, Jamilu Ibrahim, reported the incident at the Central Market Police Division at about 9:00 a.m. on Monday, alleging that his wife attacked him with a knife at about 5:30 a.m. while he was asleep.
The police said Ibrahim sustained a deep cut to his neck and was immediately rushed to a hospital, where he is receiving treatment and responding positively.
“Today, June 29, 2026, at about 9:00 a.m., one Jamilu Ibrahim reported at the Central Market Division, Katsina, that on the same date at about 5:30 a.m., while he was asleep, his wife, Sadiya Lawal, aged 23, attacked him with a knife in an attempt to slit his throat,” the statement read.
“The victim sustained a deep cut injury to the neck and was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital for medical attention, where he is currently responding to treatment.”
The police said detectives visited the scene shortly after the report, arrested the suspect and recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack as an exhibit.
Sadiq added that the suspect would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
In a related development, the command said it foiled a suspected bandit attack in Dandume Local Government Area after operatives engaged armed hoodlums in a gun battle.
The police said a distress call received on Sunday evening alerted officers to the movement of a large group of armed bandits on motorcycles along the Kadisau–Sheme Road.
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer mobilised operatives of the Violent Crimes Response Unit and the Katsina State Community Watch Corps to the area, where they reportedly confronted the suspects.
The command said the bandits fled after the exchange of gunfire, abandoning two motorcycles and a machete, which were recovered by the operatives.
It added that efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
Reacting to both incidents, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Aliyu Umar Fage, commended the officers for their swift response and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
He also urged residents to shun domestic violence and resolve family disputes through lawful and peaceful means while encouraging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to aid the fight against crime.
