The Independent National Electoral Commission has concluded the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration exercise ahead of the 2027 General Elections, urging newly registered voters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards when the exercise begins and participate actively in the polls.
The Ondo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, made the appeal on Saturday while monitoring the final day of the registration exercise across selected local government areas in the state.
Agboke, accompanied by the Administrative Secretary of the commission in Ondo State, Mrs. Adenike Tadese, visited INEC offices in Ondo East, Ondo West and Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Areas to assess the conduct of the exercise.
According to a statement by the commission, the REC was received by Electoral Officers in the various councils, who briefed him on the implementation of the voter registration exercise in their respective areas.
Speaking with journalists after the inspection, Agboke expressed appreciation to residents of the state for participating in the exercise and taking advantage of the opportunity to be enrolled in the National Register of Voters.
He explained that the low turnout recorded at some registration centres should not be interpreted as poor participation, noting that many eligible voters had utilised INEC’s self-service online registration platform to begin and complete their registration process without physically visiting the commission’s offices.
The REC urged newly registered voters, as well as those who applied for transfers or updates to their voter records, to turn out for the collection of their Permanent Voter Cards once the commission announces the commencement of the exercise.
He also called on eligible Nigerians to participate actively in the 2027 General Elections, assuring them that INEC remained committed to delivering free, fair, credible and transparent elections.
Agboke reiterated the commission’s resolve to ensure that every valid vote cast during the elections would count.
