Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has renewed his endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election, describing the President as a “son of Osun State.”
Adeleke made the declaration on Sunday while addressing journalists shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared him winner of the August 15 governorship election.
The governor, who secured a second term after defeating the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, commended Tinubu for what he described as his support for a free and fair electoral process in the state.
Adeleke said, “At this point, I must deeply appreciate Mr President, His Excellency Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his strong support for a free and fair election.
“Mr President is a son of Osun State, and I hereby reaffirm my earlier endorsement of him for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.”
The governor had earlier backed Tinubu’s bid for another term despite his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party. He contested the 2026 governorship election on the platform of the Accord Party.
Adeleke’s latest endorsement came shortly after he was declared winner of the keenly contested poll at about 7:24am on Sunday by the State Returning Officer, Prof Joshua Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti.
According to the results announced by INEC, Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes.
The governor won in 19 of the 30 local government areas, while the APC candidate carried 11 LGAs.
The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third with 17,180 votes.
Adeleke, who was elected governor in 2022 on the PDP platform, thereby secured another four-year term after switching to the Accord Party for the 2026 election.
Meanwhile, the governor also appealed to Oyebamiji to accept the outcome of the election and congratulate him, stressing the need for unity after the contest.
He said he expected the APC candidate to call and congratulate him “as a civilised person.”
“This is no victor, no vanquished. I want them to come over. I am expecting Oyebamiji to even, as a civilised person, to call me and congratulate me,” Adeleke said.
The governor also disclosed that Tinubu had called to congratulate him on his victory.
Adeleke expressed appreciation to the President, saying Tinubu’s conduct had contributed to the preservation of democratic values during the election.
“Mr President has called me and he has congratulated me. And I thank you, Mr President, for making sure democracy lives on,” he said.
