Businessman and political commentator, Isaac Fayose, has claimed that five governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress are secretly supporting the opposition Nigeria Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Fayose made the allegation in a video shared on his social media platform, claiming that the unnamed governors had privately pledged financial support for the NDC’s electoral activities while avoiding any public association with the opposition party.
He alleged that the governors remained members of the APC and would therefore not openly campaign for the NDC or make statements that could be interpreted as support for the opposition.
According to Fayose, the alleged governors were particularly interested in preventing the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, from delivering the FCT and Rivers State to the APC in the 2027 election.
He said the governors allegedly offered to financially support NDC polling agents in the two areas as part of efforts to prevent alleged manipulation of election results.
“We now have five APC governors supporting the NDC in this election. They are not going to come out to campaign for us. They are not going to say anything in public that will favour us, but underneath, they promised us to sponsor this election,” Fayose said.
He added that the governors’ alleged condition was that Wike should not secure the FCT and Rivers State for the APC.
According to him, “They don’t want Wike to win FCT for APC; they don’t want Wike to win Rivers State for APC.”
Fayose further claimed that the alleged governors were concerned about the conduct of the election and what he described as possible manipulation of ballots and results.
He alleged that the governors had offered N200,000 to NDC polling agents for each polling unit in Rivers State and the FCT if the agents were prepared to resist alleged attempts at electoral manipulation.
“So they are offering all our polling agents in Rivers and FCT N200,000 per polling unit. If you can stand together against rigging, they are willing to give you N200,000 each,” he claimed.
Fayose, however, did not disclose the identities of the five governors or provide documentary evidence of the alleged meeting, financial commitment or proposed payments.
He said the alleged governors were unwilling to have their names made public because they remained members of the APC.
The allegation comes amid heightened political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections and continuing disputes over political influence in Rivers State and the FCT.
However, Fayose’s claims about the five governors and the alleged financial arrangement could not be independently verified as of the time of filing this report.
The APC governors have previously maintained their commitment to the party. The Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, recently said APC governors would not support political arrangements capable of weakening the party or undermining President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The identities of the five governors, the alleged N200,000-per-polling-unit offer and the claim that they are secretly backing the NDC therefore remain allegations attributed to Fayose pending confirmation from the persons allegedly involved or independent evidence.
