Former Kano State Governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has declared that President Bola Tinubu’s administration does not deserve another term in office if it cannot protect Nigerians and safeguard their livelihoods.
Kwankwaso criticised the Federal Government over persistent insecurity, killings and the collapse of industries, accusing the country’s leadership of failing to address challenges affecting the lives and economic well-being of citizens.
He made the remarks on Friday in Jos, Plateau State, during an event organised by the Middle Belt Youth Council for the Obi-Kwankwaso campaign team ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The NDC candidate argued that protecting lives and property was a fundamental responsibility of government, insisting that any administration unable to fulfil that obligation should not expect voters to renew its mandate.
He said Nigerians continued to lose their lives to attacks by bandits, Boko Haram insurgents and communal violence, lamenting what he described as the apparent lack of concern over the recurring killings.
“Unfortunately, in this country, you wake up and find that 10 people, 20 people, 100 people, or even more, are killed like they’re not even human, and nobody cares,” Kwankwaso said.
He stressed that victims of insecurity were human beings whose lives deserved protection, irrespective of their ethnic, religious or regional backgrounds.
“But these people who are killed by bandits, Boko Haram, or in tribal clashes are human beings. They are just like us,” he added.
Kwankwaso called for leadership that would prioritise the security and welfare of all Nigerians, regardless of their backgrounds, noting that the protection of lives and property was a constitutional responsibility.
“We need leaders who care about every person, no matter their religion, tribe, or region.
“We need leaders who will protect the lives and property of the people of this country, and that is part of our Constitution.
“Any government that can’t do that isn’t a responsible government and doesn’t deserve to be in power again,” he said.
Beyond the security crisis, the former governor expressed concern over the state of Nigeria’s industrial sector, lamenting the disappearance of factories and industries that previously provided employment opportunities for citizens.
He maintained that the loss of industrial establishments had worsened the country’s employment challenges, leaving many Nigerians without access to decent jobs.
“You can’t find any factory or industry that is working and can employ people in this country, including Plateau State,” he said.
“The factories we had before are gone, and nobody is paying attention to that.”
His comments placed insecurity, unemployment and industrial decline at the centre of his criticism of the Tinubu administration as political parties and their candidates prepare for the 2027 elections.
Kwankwaso also urged Plateau residents to mobilise support for the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket and other candidates contesting under the NDC platform, calling on voters to defend their votes during the forthcoming poll.
“You have to stand up for these votes. You’ve done it before, and I’m sure you will do it again,” he told the gathering.
