…Forum Questions Benefits Of Mega Deal

The Arewa Consultative Forum has challenged the Federal Government to disclose the full details of Nigeria’s reported $700bn critical minerals deal with the United States, insisting that Nigerians deserve to know what the country stands to gain from the agreement.
The forum warned that keeping the terms of an agreement of such magnitude away from public scrutiny could fuel suspicion and undermine public confidence in the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
The National Publicity Secretary of the ACF, Professor Tukur Mohammed-Baba, made the call during an interview on Arise Television on Saturday.
Mohammed-Baba said the government had a responsibility to explain the nature of the agreement, its expected benefits and its possible implications for Nigeria.
“The government needs to tell Nigerians what we are getting into with this deal,” he said.
He maintained that an agreement involving such a substantial figure should not be shrouded in secrecy, particularly at a time when many Nigerians are grappling with economic hardship.
The ACF spokesman stressed that citizens deserved clear information about the obligations undertaken by the country, the benefits expected from the partnership and the conditions governing the exploitation and development of Nigeria’s critical mineral resources.
He urged the Tinubu administration to make the details of the agreement public to prevent speculation, suspicion and mistrust over a deal with potentially significant economic and strategic implications.
The call comes amid growing attention to Nigeria’s efforts to attract foreign investment into its solid minerals sector and strengthen economic cooperation with international partners.
Nigeria signed a critical minerals framework with the United States on September 23, 2026, at the Nigeria House in New York, on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
However, the ACF maintained that Nigerians should be adequately informed about the agreement and its implications for the country’s economic interests.
The forum reiterated its commitment to promoting transparency and accountability in governance, stressing that agreements involving national resources should be accompanied by clear explanations of their benefits to the Nigerian people.
