The University of Lagos has announced plans to conduct mandatory toxicology screening for newly admitted students as part of its admission and registration requirements for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The exercise, scheduled to commence on Monday, October 26, and end on Friday, December 18, 2026, will cover candidates admitted through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and Direct Entry routes.
The university disclosed the development in a statement issued on Saturday, directing all newly admitted candidates to undergo the screening before completing their admission screening and registration processes.
The institution said the exercise was in line with its policy requiring newly admitted students to undergo drug testing as a prerequisite for admission formalities.
According to the statement, the university’s toxicology team will conduct the exercise at the Jelili Adebisi Omotola Multipurpose Hall between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. daily throughout the scheduled period.
The university directed candidates to complete an online Google Form to book their screening appointments, providing their Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board numbers and biodata forms as part of the process.
It added that students must print the screening slips sent to their email addresses and present evidence of payment at their respective appointments.
The institution urged newly admitted candidates to comply with the directives and complete the exercise within the stipulated period to avoid delays in their admission screening and registration.
It also advised students to visit the university’s official website for further information about the exercise and other requirements.
The announcement comes amid continuing concerns about drug and substance abuse among young people, with universities and other educational institutions increasingly under pressure to strengthen measures aimed at promoting safe learning environments.
However, the university’s statement did not specify the substances to be tested, the consequences of a positive result, or the procedures available to students who may wish to challenge their screening results.
