The Ogun State Police command on Tuesday,  paraded 39 suspected members of two cult groups and one armed robbery suspect.

The suspects were said to have been causing widespread terror in the state in recent times.

The robbery suspect, identified as Ayinde Musibau, was apprehended when he and his gang members attempted to rob a village near Ifo Township, Ifo Local Government Area.

While others escaped after they attacked a commercial motorcyclist with machetes, Musibau was arrested.

Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Oladimeji disclosed this, saying,  the arrest of the hoodlums signifies the ongoing crackdown on cultists who have been instigating violence in various parts of the state.

Oladimeji said that the command had decided to confront the menace of cultism by targeting known cultists responsible for violence in Sagamu .

“Our Anti-Cultis team, in collaboration with other tactical units and divisional police operatives, launched a robust offensive operation against these cultists, identifying their hideouts in Sagamu, Odogbolu, Ode-Lemo, and other areas. The results of our operation are evident today.”

The Police Commissioner further revealed that in the past week, 24 suspected cult members arrested across the state have been charged and brought before the court.

While issuing a stern warning to parents and guardians, urging them to intervene and dissuade their children from engaging in activities that undermine the state’s security.

Oladimeji emphasized that his command remains resolute in eradicating cultism and other social vices.

He stressed that the police organization is dedicated to safeguarding lives and properties.

During the operation, law enforcement officers recovered various items from the apprehended individuals.

These included locally made guns, axes, double-barreled guns, bags containing suspected Indian Hemp, live cartridges, daggers, and cutlasses, among other locally manufactured weapons.
