Ejikeme Mmesoma, a student of Anglican Girls Secondary School, Nnewi, Anambra State, who was accused of forging her Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME result and her father, Ejikeme Romanus, have broken silence, claiming that the printed result is original.
Recall that on Sunday, in a statement, Fabian Benjamin, JAMB spokesperson, revealed that the student, who was widely celebrated over 362 score, which is the highest for 2023 UTME, actually scored 249 in the exam.
According to Benjamin, the student had tampered with the original result to curry favour.
However, speaking on Monday, the student said she printed her result from JAMB portal, adding that she was not capable of forging her result.
According to her, she had always been a brilliant pupil, who had secured first position from primary school days.
“There must be problem somewhere, I’m the owner of this result. I went to the JAMB portal to print this result and this is what they gave me. This is the result here. So, this is my aggregate; 362. This is exactly how I printed it. They now saying that I forged my result is what I don’t know and I am traumatized that they accused me of forging my own results because I am not capable of this.
“They scanned the QR code and said it showed another name (Omotola Afolabi 138) and that same person that got 138, they checked again the person got 338, meaning that there is a problem somewhere.
“My principal and I went to the Commissioner of Education office last Friday. We showed the result to the commissioner of education and she snapped it and sent it to the JAMB officials. They called back saying it is a forged result. They called the DSS over to their office. The DSS took us to their office and we made our statement. They said we would be contacted later after investigating the result where it came from.
“Instead of them to wait for the investigation to be over, they posted that I forged my result without confirming. I’m really sad. Since my nursery school I have been taking first. I scored over 300 in my common entrance. I’m a brilliant girl. I am not an illiterate that would forge results,” she narrated.
Speaking in the same vein, her father, a tricycle rider, said his daughter has always been a brilliant girl, alleging that there is a conspiracy against his daughter.
In his words, his daughter is not capable of forging results, adding that his daughter had showcased sterling academic brilliance right from her nursery school days.
He said, “We are from Oduma in Aninri local government in Enugu state, but, we live in Uruagu, Nnewi. Mmesoma is my first child. She had always taken first position from the time she was in the nursery school at Ogbunike Central school.
“When she was at Oba Girls Secondary school, Mmesoma was representing the school in competitions. So when she changed to Anglican Girls Secondary school, her teachers in Oba Girls came and pleaded with me, begging me to retain her in their school, that she is promoting the name of their school.
“Mmesoma cannot manipulate her UMTE score. I don’t believe what they are saying. They just want to transfer that scholarship to another person. That is why they are saying that Mmesoma did not make that score.
“It is even her (Mmesoma’s) friends that saw her score on the internet and started calling her before she went and printed it out. We have the print-out, it is with us now,” Mmesoma’s father stated.”
He therefore lamented that his daughter had been down after she was taken to the Department of State Services, DSS,.when she visited the state commissioner of education.
According him, the development has so much traumatized her, as the society now sees her as a fraudster.
However, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, said Mmesoma’s case had not been reported, adding that he can’t comment on the issue.
