    15 Feared Dead After Drinking Alcohol In Ogun

    No fewer than 15 persons have reportedly  lost their lives after consuming alcoholic drink in Ijebuland .

    PLATFORM TIMES gathered 15 persons have reportedly died in the last one week after drinking bottles of alcohol in Ogbogbo and other areas in Ogun East,especially, Ijebuland in Ogun State.

    PLATFORM TIMES further gathered that at Ogbogbo in Atan in the Ijebu-North East local government area of the state six persons were declared dead .

    The incident occured on Tuesday, at a joint where seven friends reportedly converged got merry making.

    It was further gathered that the six persons who drank the alcohol died while the seventh person who reportedly brought the drink from home,but,did not partake in the drinking was alive.

    The deceased persons and the suspect reportedly engaged in a hot argument, but, was later settled.

    According to a resident in the area, an alcohol seller had been accused of selling poisonous which led to the death of the people.

    But, upon the findings, they gathered that the killer drink was served by one of the deceased persons’s friends .

    It was also gathered that the seventh person offered to donate a bottle of alcohol as part of reconciliation moves after the argument.

    He reportedly went home and brought the drink which was drunk by all the six friends except him .

    Few hours after they had departed to their various destinations, a news filtered into the town that two of the friends have died while four others were hospitalised.

    The other four persons died the following day while the suspect was reported to have fled over the incident.

    The source said “it was later at that night that the news started breaking that those who drank from the alcohol have started dying while some of them were rushed to the hospital.

    “Six people have been announced dead as at time of speaking to you .
    The whereabouts of the man who brings the alcohol is yet to be known as of press time.”

    Meanwhile, there is an anxiety in Ijebuland over alleged killer drink in circulation.

    A viral statement read “Ogogoro drinker. There is a dangerous and killer local gin currently in circulation in Ijebuland. Over 15 people have gone to burial ground  in the last one week. Safe your life by totally abstaining from any herbal mixture made of Ogogoro right now”

    When contacted for reaction, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Omolola Odutola confirmed the incident.

    Odutola however, kept mum over the number of the affected persons .

    She said “I just confirmed something like that occurred but the families said they are not pressing charges and prefer to bury their dead.”
