Shortly after the release of the list of eight commissioner-nominees by Ogun State House of Assembly Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo, the nominees underwent a rigorous screening process.
They were urged to build upon the achievements of the previous term led by Prince Dapo Abiodun’s administration and to work towards enhancing the well-being of the state’s citizens.
During the screening at the Oke-Mosan Assembly Complex, the lawmakers emphasized the importance of a stronger collaboration between the Legislature and various Ministries.
The nominees were praised for their nominations by the Governor, with a reminder to actively contribute to the development of policies and programs aimed at raising the living standards of the state’s populace.
The lawmakers pressed the nominees to foster inter-agency cooperation to address issues such as deteriorating road conditions across the 26 State Constituencies, flooding, investment opportunities, housing shortages, land disputes, and educational staff shortages in primary and secondary schools.
Upon confirmation by the Assembly and subsequent swearing-in by the Governor, the nominees were encouraged to uphold the Legislative arm as a vital partner in the state’s advancement.
The need for sustained cooperation on government policies and programs through their ministries was underscored.
Speaker Oluomo applauded their nominations and challenged them to meet the high expectations of their roles. He emphasized the significance of an affordable education system and improved access to justice.
The Speaker also highlighted the urgency of equipping operational teams to dredge rivers and canals, thereby addressing the recurrent issue of flooding in certain communities.
Additionally, he urged the incoming Attorney-General to establish legal measures for the immediate implementation of the Anti-land Grabbing Law to counter the activities of land grabbers.
One of the nominees, former Housing Commissioner Jagunmolu Omoniyi, pledged enhanced service delivery.
He recounted his ministry’s achievements in constructing over 2,000 affordable housing units across various districts, generating employment opportunities and contributing to the state’s GDP.
Former Justice Commissioner and Attorney General Designate, Oluwasina Ogungbade, mentioned the efforts taken to combat sexual violence against women and minors. He assured that measures were being implemented to expedite trials for criminal suspects and address land grabbing issues within the scope of the offenses committed.
The screening process also involved other nominees: Engr. Adebowale Akinsanya, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, and Olaolu Olabimtan.
