The Olowu of Owu kingdom, Abeokuta, Oba Prof. Saka Matemilola has described his experience as the 14th Olowu of Owu,Abeokuta,as both challenging and pleasant .
The monarch, a Professor of Applied Mathematics, Matemilola was made the Oba August 1st, 2022 as 14th Olowu after the demise of the late Oba Adegboyega Dosunmu who died on Sunday, December 12, 2021.
Addressing a press conference at his palace, Owu, Abeokuta, on Thursday, the monarch disclosed that his one year journey as
He said “it has been challenging but, when you have a sutuasion at hand and you have clarity about what exactly what you want to do, to deliver on the result and you have people who are so willing, with enthusiasm, in fact,passionate about the path of the vision and road map,
I have no reason of whatsoever not to do it and do it with all my best.
“Sincerely it has not been easy, but the support we received from God and from our people, the chiefs, the different association, even, the government and our people at home and abroad have made it very easy to submit and then continue doing whatever I am doing .
“It has been pleasant giving the fact that I have been working with people with large hearts who are ready to work sacrifice.”
Oba Matemilola, said he had empowered a lot of people including students through scholarships and traders who got equipment .
The monarch also discloed that in the last one year, he has been able to solve water and health problems in some Owu communities .
Olowu also noted that over 200 students have benefitted from his scholarship programme through his foundation, Olowu Scholars Foundation as part of efforts to boost the education sector.
He however spoke about the alarming issue of drug abuse,which he said not limited to Nigeria but a global challenge.
He announced a strategic partnership with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and Neuro Psychiatric Hospital Aro, Abeokuta, aiming to initiate a robust advocacy campaign against drug abuse.
He added that the m support garnered from the Police, Customs, Immigration, and foundations with rehabilitation centers further bolstered the initiative.
The Olowu commended the Balogun Owu, former president Olusegun Obasanjo on his active involvement in international missions, highlighting his pivotal role in the success of their undertakings.
The monarch praised Balogun’s dedication to addressing crises and saving lives, even at the cost of missing significant events.
He described it as a testament to his commitment to representing Owu, Nigeria, and Africa on a global stage.
